Ubuntuのカレンダーアプリといえば、Thunderbird付属のLightningぐらいしかないと思いましたが、ちょっとWebを散策しているとGoogleカレンダーと同期でき、かつicsファイルが読めるカレンダーアプリが出ているのを見つけました。

機能としては以下のとおりです。

• Modern, clean interface
• Quick setup (if any is required at all)
• Uses EDS for calendar access, potentially other specialized backends
• Quickly add events with natural-language parser
• Desktop notification of events

導入方法は以下の通り。

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yorba/daily-builds
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install california

ただしこのリポジトリにはGearyとShotwellが含まれるため、気になる人は導入後以下のとおりにしてリポジトリを削除しておくのが良いと思います。

sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:yorba/daily-builds
sudo apt-get update

それでも気になる方は、パッケージ単位でも公開されているのでそちらから導入するのが良いと思います。
